What kind of structure will you be joining as a shutdown specialist?   We are recruiting, on behalf of one of our major clients in the mining sector, a shutdown specialist for an 18 to 24-month assignment at Fort Dauphin, Madagascar, on the Rio Tinto QMM site. You will join the team in charge of major shutdowns for critical projects scheduled in 2026 and 2027.   Shutdown specialist: What will your missions and responsibilities be?   As a Shutdown Specialist, you will report directly to the Major Shutdown Superintendent and play both a strategic and operational role in the preparation, coordination, and execution of the Wet Plant 2026 shutdown, while also contributing to the structuring of future shutdowns (notably MSP 2027).   Your key responsibilities include:   Preparation of the Wet Plant 2026 Major Shutdown:
  • Develop the preparation plan by identifying critical tasks and associated CAPEX projects
  • Ensure detailed planning in collaboration with technical teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Define required human and material resources to ensure safe execution
  • Establish contingency scenarios to anticipate potential risks
  Support for the 2026–2027 Shutdowns Management:
  • Integrate maintenance and CAPEX projects into the overall shutdown schedule
  • Ensure compliance with HSE and regulatory standards
  • Support the implementation of mitigation plans and preventive measures
  Coordination During Execution:
  • Participate in on-site supervision during shutdown periods
  • Monitor progress of interventions and optimize plant restart
  • Analyze deviations and propose corrective actions
  Team Skills Development:
  • Supervise and mentor new planners in routine shutdown management
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring and improvement tools
  • Share best practices in line with group standards
  Standardization and Continuous Improvement:
  • Help formalize shutdown methodologies on site
  • Adapt group standards to the site’s specific operational context
  • Capitalize on lessons learned from previous shutdowns
  What profile and skills are required for this Shutdown Specialist position?   Education: Engineering degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical, electrical engineering, or equivalent.   Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing major shutdowns in industrial environments (mining, petrochemical, metallurgy, etc.)
  • Proven experience integrating CAPEX projects into shutdown processes
  • Demonstrated ability in team management and knowledge transfer
  Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in planning and maintenance tools: MS Project, SAP PM
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment
  • Ability to anticipate, structure, and coordinate complex projects
  Languages: Fluent French and English required   Assignment Conditions:
  • Location: Madagascar
  • Contract: External consultant – 18 to 24-month assignment
  • Team: AMP (Major Shutdown & Project) team integration
  • Covered expenses: accommodation, meals, local transport, IT equipment
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Salary: Based on profile and experience, under expatriate status
