In what organization will you work as Senior Safety Engineer?
We are looking, on behalf of one of our clients in the energy sector, for a Senior Safety Engineer, to be based in Nanterre.
Senior Safety Engineer: What will your missions and responsibilities be?
- Identify and qualify Major Accident Events,
- Design and implement prevention, control, mitigation, and protection measures,
- Provide safe design which ensures the protection of Personnel, Environment and Assets,
by carrying out the following activities and associated deliverables:
- Preliminary risk analysis (*),
- Safety reviews participation (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, etc.),
- Plot plan reviews, and 3D model reviews,
- Identification of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) & associated criticality rating,
- Hazardous area classification,
- Passive fire-protection (*),
- Cold spill protection (*),
- Active fire-protection (firewater pumps station design, fire-fighting network and deluge systems studies, hydraulic balance calculations),
- Flammable gas, toxic gas and fire detection,
- Personnel protection,
- Escape, Evacuation & Rescue (*),
- Specification and requisition for firefighting and personnel protection equipment, technical bid evaluation and vendor follow-up.
- He/She shall be responsible for producing safety deliverables by him/herself. He/she must produce high-quality deliverables while considering project constraints (e.g., contractual requirements, budget, schedule & milestones).
- He/She must be able to justify his/her design choices, explain them, and defend them with reasoned arguments.
- Prepare replies to COMPANY comments.
- Prepare Engineering Queries where clarifications are required from COMPANY.
- Raise inconsistencies in the Basis of Design to CONTRACTOR attention.
- Attend meetings when Safety representative is required regarding the subjects or activities he/she oversees.
- Perform the Safety engineering activities in accordance with Project procedures developed by CONTRACTOR (e.g., interface management, COMPANY communication, document numbering, HSE, quality…).
- Propose technical optimizations and Capex optimizations.
- In addition, he/she may be brought to check deliverables produced by others, and to supervise some engineers.
What profile and skills are required for this Senior Safety Engineer position?
- Master of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Safety or Process
- Well-established knowledge of Safety engineering activities as described above: Hazardous Area Classification, Detection, Active and Passive Fire Protection, Personnel Protection, Escape Evacuation & Rescue
- Well-established knowledge of International Safety Codes & Standards (NFPA standards, API practices, IP codes, etc.) and Major COMPANY Safety Specifications. Knowledge of Canadian and Quebec regulations would be an asset
- Well-established knowledge of Oil & Gas and/or Energy transition installations
- Sound judgment in technical matters with good skills in plant design optimization/modification
- Working proficient in English
- Working proficient in using common computer tools (Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
- Good teamwork and inter-personal skills to assert themselves in a multicultural environment
- Commitment, proactivity, strictness (including traceability of source, comments & modifications), autonomous (good self-organization, ability to interface inside and outside the HSED team, etc.), ability to easily communicate, ability to analyze problems and propose technical choices
- Significant experience of more than ten years in Safety engineering in oil and gas industries, petrochemistry and/or energy transition
